Case Studies
Hyland Equipment Company has many years of experience in power washing, water reclamation, and machine
custom design and manufacture. The following are examples or case studies of actual problems that we solved.
Further, through our solutions, we were able to greatly increase the efficiency and productivity for our
clients. In all cases, care was taken to maintain the environment through purification of the waste water
generated.

The Hotsy Advantage
Case Study: Meeting a Deadline
A Connecticut-based company had contractual deadlines to meet, but was having trouble keeping a
Hotsy competitor's pressure washer in service. The company was referred
to Hyland by one of our satisfied customers. We made the service call and determined that the pressure
washer was beyond repair. Hyland installed a Hotsy loaner machine so the
company could complete the contract and meet the deadline. The company was so pleased with the result
that it not only had a new Hotsy installed, the loaner was purchased for
field use. Problem solved! The Connecticut company has since referred several new clients to
Hyland Equipment Company.
Case Study: Cleaning Up
A Rhode Island sanitation company had an urgent need to keep its hauling trucks and other machinery sanitized.
The company had purchased another brand of power washer, but could not keep it in service. The power wash experts
from Hyland assisted in the repair of the washer to keep it operating. As a result, the sanitation company has
subsequently purchased five of our Hotsy Power Washers. Hyland also has a service contract with the company to
keep the systems up and operating.
Case Study: The Complete System
A major utility had a large fleet of vehicles and wanted to maintain their appearance. In order to do so,
the company wanted the best washer solution that did not generate polluted water. Hyland designed a
self-contained system beginning with a large Hotsy series 1400 power washer
that generated 4 gallons per minute at 3000psi. This provided the maximum cleaning power, while saving
cleaning time and minimizing the amount of waste water generated. The power washer operated in a contained
area with a collection pit in the floor. The collected, contaminated waste water was then pumped into a
tank, which delivered that water to a Hylander Ultrafiltration system. The
Hylander so thoroughly cleaned the discharge that it was stored and used again and again for power washing.
The fleet looked excellent, the power washing was highly efficient, the water consumption was minimized,
and there was no waste water discharge into the environment.

Time to separate the good from the bad....
Case Study: Medical Parts
A medical parts manufacturer in Massachusetts had a problem cleaning the waste water resulting from their
processes. The waste water contained ceramics and metal that another manufacturer's ultrafiltration system
could not remove successfully. We loaned the company one of our "demo" mobile systems while we built one of
our custom-designed Hylander systems. The manufacturer's operations people were
so happy with the Hylander's performance that they asked us to convert their old
system to our new process.
Case Study: Bay Watch
A northern RI ink and dye manufacturer had problems with waste water reclamation due to the content of
heavy metals used in its processes. The Bay Commission was penalizing the company to the point of wanting
the company to cease operation. One of our Hylander ultrafiltration systems
was installed, and the results were monitored by the Commission. The system did such a superior job in the
first water reclamation run that the Commission dropped the requirement for a second run. The
Hylander system has now been in operation for four years, and the company is
planning to install a second ultrafiltration system for a new manufacturing process.
Case Study: Michigan Press Release
Hotsy of Mid Michigan has just completed the installation of the Hyland Equipment
Ultrafiltration System, Model HUF 16. The filtration system cleans the wash solution used in parts cleaning
equipment. The Hyland system will continuously remove emulsified oil and other contaminants from the wash
solution. In addition, the Hylander's filter returns a significant amount of
unused detergent to the wash resulting in a 70% decrease in detergent used. Parts being washed are kept
consistently clean, and so is the wash system, which will no longer need to be changed out at regular
intervals. Hotsy will no longer need to spend in excess of $900.00 per week to
have used wash water hauled away. The return on investment will be just over 6 months.

Superior Solutions
Case Study: Robots
Hyland had been providing power wash equipment to a large qualified vendor defense contractor for various
uses. The contractor had developed a new product that had sensitive parts that were experiencing a higher
rejection rate than expected. Because of our past experience providing power wash systems, the vendor asked
us to develop a resolution. Through the use of robotics we were able to design
and build an automated machine that was capable of and proven to reduce the rejection rate to nearly zero.
The contractor enhanced efficiency and savings through greatly increased productivity and through the
integration of a Hylander Ultrafiltration system which minimizes waste water
discharge into the environment.
